How to Freeze Sugar Snap Peas

6/7/2024

Hello, fellow garden enthusiasts and veggie lovers! 🌞🥕
If you've got an abundance of sugar snap peas and want to enjoy their sweet, crisp goodness year-round, freezing them is the perfect solution. Here's how to do it:
  1. Harvest and Prep 🌿
    • Pick your sugar snap peas at their peak freshness. Look for bright green pods that are plump and snap easily (we've done this for you!)
    • Rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
    • Trim the ends and remove any strings.
  2. Blanching Time ⏲️
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
    • Prepare an ice bath (a large bowl filled with ice and water).
    • Once the water is boiling, add the peas and blanch them for about 2 minutes. This helps preserve their vibrant color and crisp texture.
    • Immediately transfer the peas to the ice bath to stop the cooking process. Let them cool completely.
  3. Dry and Pack 🌬️
    • Drain the peas and spread them out on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Pat them dry gently.
    • Arrange the peas in a single layer on a baking sheet. This prevents them from clumping together when freezing.
    • Pop the baking sheet into the freezer for about an hour, or until the peas are firm.
  4. Store for Later 🗄️
    • Transfer the frozen peas into airtight freezer bags or containers. Be sure to squeeze out as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
    • Label the bags with the date so you can keep track of their freshness.
That's it! Your sugar snap peas are now ready to be enjoyed anytime you crave a taste of summer. 🌞🥗 Add them to stir-fries, salads, or simply snack on them straight from the freezer.
Happy freezing! 🌱❄️
